After months (years?) of looking for the perfect reading lamp that could also throw indirect light onto the ceiling, we broke down and purchased this Holtkoetter. To say that I had reservations about the price would be an understatement. However, from the moment I started unpacking the box I could tell that this product was a quality level in a class by itself.
First of all, it is heavy - really heavy! The base is rock solid and stays put, even if someone bumps into it. Secondly, the sliding controls are on the lamp, not on the floor like so many of the cheaper models. They are easy to reach and they glide oh, so smoothly! I never realized that there could be such a tactile difference in a lamp control...
Finally, the light is fantastic - at all levels of brightness. The arms are extremely adjustable. It's everything you could want in a reading/accent lamp. No wonder they are so expensive!

We have bought 4 torchieres in the last month in attempt to improve the dim lighting throughout our current home. Most of them were under $50 - this put a severe dent in the credit card but what a product! Up to 400 Watts in total output (300 watts from torchiere and a max of 100 watts from the reading lamp), clean elegant finish (would not conceivably chip away unlike one of the $50 models we bought locally), everything moves and functions to perfection or just looks beautiful standing there! It arrives from Amazon to one's doorstep in a very long box containing the torchiere fully assembled (a first in our many years of purchasing and then forcibly assembling torchieres both here and abroad). The packaging has very little styrofoam and each layer - full protective - unwraps effortlessly. We did have a hitch with the lights not all coming on at first - but an email and a fairly quick phone call to Holtkoetter's customer service and technical support solved the issue and in the process getting under the surface, we found out just how neat and efficiently put together the interior parts of this lamp are. The torchiere's plug requires a three prong outlet. The bulbs are included and pre-installed: 5 - 60 watt G9 style halogens - very easy to insert when you need to change them - the halogen bulbs are long-lasting and brighter than incandescent and won't dim as much with age. German-engineering perfection in a halogen torchiere.

The motto for this product is "The Ultimate Lighting Machine", and that pretty much sums it up. This lamp is as different from other quality lighting that I have bought as a BMW is from a Ford. It ships in a well-padded box, and is Heavy! The small amount of assembly is straightforward. The lamp is exquisitely constructed with great attention to detail. The sliders, for instance, are well-balanced with a small indicator light that signals whether the lamp is fully off. The arms of the lamp are solid, but move easily into position and remain where they are placed. The torchiere lamp easily illuminates a large room. The lamp is expensive, but is well worth the investment.
